Francis, Head Girl Pleasant morning to Miss Prentice, Mrs. Harris, Mr. McAulay, staff and students, and welcome back to our second term of this Visionary school year, 2019-2020! It is truly a great joy to see each and every one of us back alive and well in the name of the Lord. Many people were not granted the opportunity to see this year, therefore, we must have grateful hearts, take this blessing , and make the most of it while we can. This is a new year, but we are all on similar missions. The mission of Faith and Focus, which we aim to master and complete, for that ultimate success we all desire. This year, I hope we are all able to put aside the things which hinder our holistic development, and make more important, the things which continue to contribute to our growth. As we embark on this new chapter of the same journey of our lives, let us always remember who is keeping us going. Let us not lose sight of the one who truly loves us, and does all things to keep us safe- our saviour, Christ. Happy New Year CHS. Francis Broken Pieces Published: Tuesday, 09 July 2019 Written by Leandra Lander Summer Splash Published: Friday, 10 May 2019 Written by Dominica Convent Alumni The Crown Stays Home at CHS Published: Tuesday, 26 February 2019 Written by Sherri Jeffrey, Photography Jordan Jerome On a grand stage in Carnival City on the evening of 24 February 2019, fifteen year old 4th form student Kyanna Dyer copped the title of Miss Teen Dominica 2019! Kyanna herself would tell of the many long hours of practice that were necessary to accomplish her goal. Endless sessions that stretched into the late afternoons and early evenings were her new normal for many weeks as she prepared to compete against four other competitors. Kyanna endured and blossomed, reaping the fruits of her labour by winning the coveted title. Along with winning the crown, she secured the top position in a total of five out of seven possible categories, namely: Best Speech, Best Performing Talent, Best Spectacular Creation, Best in Spectacular Creation, and Best in Evening Wear. She also won the honour of being named Miss Photogenic. After emerging from the embrace of a swell of well wishers that engulfed the stage, Kyanna thanked God, Team CHS, her family, especially her mother and sister, Team Kyanna, her principal and teachers, the CHS, the AfriKulture Stilt Walkers, and her sponsors the CHS Foundation, J. Astaphan and Co. Ltd., and Signal Band for aiding her on her journey and ensuring that she was victorious. Team CHS and Team Kyanna express their gratitude for all the help in every and any form that was given to the effervescent Kyanna Dyer. Over the years many a contestant have represented the CHS and made the school proud in one way or another. This year in particular we thank God and everyone else for the support that Kyanna received. This occasion marks the first time that the CHS has won the Miss Teen Dominica title three times consecutively, a feat that is to be celebrated. Truly, all must be thanked for helping the crown to stay at home in the halls of CHS! A special thank you to Jordan Jerome Photography for use of his photographs CHS History Department Recognises Black History Month Published: Monday, 25 February 2019 Written by Deborah Harris Black History Month started in the U.S. as a way to raise awareness of the contributions of African Americans to that society. It is celebrated during the month of February every year, and has been adopted by several countries, including Dominica, as a time to raise the awareness of our own history, as well as, to raise awareness of the issue of reparations for slavery. The History Department conducted the morning’s Assemblies during the week of 18th to 22nd February with each form level assigned a specific day. The theme of the month is “Know Thyself” and the History Department chose to profile a Dominican personality who had made a significant contribution to Dominica’s history. Each form level was given one personality to research and create a profile, which would be read out at the Assembly, and later displayed on the school’s bulletin board. Form One started off the week recognising the contribution of Sr Alicia de Tremerie (1-1), who founded the Credit Union Movement in Dominica; Elizabeth Israel/Ma Pampo (1-2) centenarian, who was believed to be the world’s oldest living person at 128 years; and Mabel Moir James (1-3), politician and first female Cabinet Minister in Dominica.
